The Four Seasons Japanese Inn MINOYA (Yahiko Onsen, Niigata Prefecture)

Shiki no Yado MINOYA, situated at the gateway of Yahiko Shrine affectionately known as ‘Oyahikosama,’ traces its founding back to the year 1701.  This historical hot spring Japanese inn has been widely cherished and holds a significant place in the rich history of Yahiko Shrine. Spring brings cherry blossoms, summer unveils vibrant greenery, autumn displays colorful foliage, and winter transforms the landscape into a snowy wonderland, offering the distinct beauty of each season.

In the guest rooms, it should be highlighted that there are rooms with semi-open-air natural hot springs that were fully renovated in April 2023.  All four types of rooms have different specifications, featuring Simmons beds, and offer a luxurious atmosphere. The Japanese-style suites exude the atmosphere of Taisho Roman, creating a pleasant ambiance from the rooms to the corridors. Standard rooms are 10 to 12 tatami mats in size, and other room types include twin rooms (36 sqm), barrier-free rooms, and single rooms (19 sqm). With a total of 60 rooms, all rooms are non-smoking, and free Wi-Fi is available in every room.

The hot spring source at MINOYA is named "Yu-jinja Onsen," originating from the approach to Yu-jinja Shrine in the outer garden of Yahiko Park. It is known as the hot spring of the gods, and the on-site facilities include outdoor baths with panoramic views of Mount Yahiko and gender-separated large communal baths named "Hikoboshi" and "Orihime." The spring quality is alkaline simple hot spring, effective for neuralgia, muscle pain, insomnia, and more.

The cuisine at MINOYA reflects the seasons, offering luxurious menus showcasing the blessings of both the mountains and the sea in Niigata Prefecture. Specialties such as the ‘Yuki Kaiseki’ developed for MINOYA’s 320th anniversary, ‘Tsuki Kaiseki,’ and ‘Hana Kaiseki’ are available. With the Japan Sea spreading beyond Mount Yahiko, Sado Island can be seen in the distance. Thanks to the influences of the Tsushima Current flowing off Sado's coast, the region is blessed with both warm and cold current seafood delights. MINOYA’s ability to provide delicious seasonal ingredients is further enhanced by its rare ownership of the "market bidding rights" within the prefecture. Additionally, MINOYA carefully selects approximately 20 types of Niigata's local sake that pair well with the cuisine for its guests.

Breakfast is served in the panoramic restaurant, featuring a buffet of local vegetable-based country dishes and Western cuisine. Popular items include omelets prepared by the chef and spice curry devised by spice cuisine expert "Ms. Ichijo Monko."

Shiki no Yado MINOYA is a luxurious retreat where history and nature resonate, offering hot springs, gourmet cuisine, and the charm of each season to be savored.  Shiki no Yado MINOYA is conveniently located, it's a 10-minute walk from JR Yahiko Station.
