Hokkaido Heritage "Moor Onsen"

北海道遺産 モール温泉

Hokkaido, located in northern Japan, is home to the highest number of hot spring resorts in the country, with a total of 251 locations. Famous examples include Noboribetsu Onsen, Lake Toya Onsen, Jozankei Onsen, Sounkyo Onsen, and Lake Akan Onsen, which represent volcanic hot springs.

On the other hand, when it comes to the Hokkaido Heritage, Tokachigawa Onsen is well-known for its Moor Onsen. Moor Onsen is a non-volcanic hot spring that contains a high concentration of organic matter derived from plants. It is characterized by its dark brown color and thick, viscous texture. It is said to have excellent moisturizing and warming effects, often referred to as "beauty water." Tokachigawa Onsen has a historical legend that it was once called "Kusuri-no-numa" (meaning "Medicinal Swamp") by the Ainu people, the indigenous inhabitants of Hokkaido.

The spring quality of Moor Onsen is sodium chloride-hydrogen carbonate spring (weakly alkaline, low salinity, and high-temperature spring). It is known to be effective for various conditions such as neuralgia, muscle pain, arthritis, frozen shoulder, motor paralysis, joint stiffness, sprains, hemorrhoids, chronic digestive disorders, chronic skin diseases, post-illness recovery, fatigue recovery, health promotion, weak constitution, chronic gynecological disorders, sensitivity to cold, cuts, and burns.
